ADHD herbal Remedies - AD-FX

With the growing amount of scientific research showing that ADHD medications do not work in the long-term, produce potentially serious side-effects, and have unknown effects on the brain in long-term users, more and more parents are looking for natural alternatives for their children.

One of those promising alternatives is the use of herbal remedies such as ginseng and gingko biloba extracts. However, one problem associated with using such extracts is that organic ginseng is often contaminated with fungicides, herbicides, heavy metals, and pesticides. And we definitely do not want that for our children.

To ensure that safe ginseng preparations are available to more families, researchers from the University of Alberta in Canada have developed a product called AD-FX. AD-FX is an herbal remedy containing a very potent formulation of American ginseng extract and gingko biloba extract.  Researchers tested the benefits of the formulation in a small clinical trial involving 36 children, aged 3 to 17 years old, diagnosed with ADHD.  The study found that 74% of the children benefitted from the herbal formulation with reduction in symptoms of ADHD.

The most exciting discovery about AD-FX's American ginseng extract is its effect on brain cells.  It seems ginseng helps the brain heal damaged neurons. Instead of putting a toll on the brain like ADHD medications do, the herbs in AD-FX seem to stimulate brain cell growth and nerve growth, and have antioxidant properties.

Each capsule of AD-FX contains 200mg American ginseng extract and 50mg of gingko biloba extract. The recommended dosage for children is four AD-FX capsules daily on an empty stomach.  Adolescents and adults will need more than AD-FX; a combination of 300mg gingko and St John’s Wort or hypericum is reported to work best in adults and adolescents.

Although herbal remedies such as AD-FX work great for some children, it is important to remember that ADHD is a complex disorder with many expressions. Its management, therefore, requires a comprehensive treatment approach that includes diet, exercise, detoxification, and brain re-training.
